“In Dublin’s fair city, where the girls are so pretty…”

Oh, hello neglected blog. My apologies. I have finally returned from my state of “I-am-so-overwhelmed-with-just-having-returned-from-a-round-the-world-trip-and-once-again-preparing-to-move-out-of-the-country”. I am once again settled in Dublin and there are no words to describe how happy I am to be living in my favorite city in the world.

Beautiful day in Dublin

Beautiful day in Dublin

I arrived on August 17th and began looking for accommodation on the 18th with a fellow incoming postgrad, whom I met on the “Trinity College Dublin Accepted Students 2014” Facebook page. We looked at many apartments on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and we chose the first apartment that we viewed on the Wednesday. We were very lucky to find a place so quickly because there is not enough accommodation in Dublin at the moment – it is an extremely competitive market. We are paying more than we wanted to, but we are in the city centre and can walk everywhere so we are happy. We have a cute 2 bedroom flat and are very compatible flatmates.

I have been quite busy the last 3 weeks trying to get settled and get everything sorted and organized. It’s been nice to see some old friends and meet some new ones already. My classes do not begin until September 26th but I have had 2 “intro/pre” classes and am equally excited and nervous to begin. This week is orientation week and I’ve just completed day one which was very long (10:00 – 19:30, meetings all day) and informative. I am extremely excited to be a student again, especially at my dream university.

The weather has been absolutely lovely. The highs have been between 60F/16C and 70F/21C and we’ve had a lot of sun. I’ve even gotten a bit of a sunburn (already!). I know the weather will be changing very quickly and it will be cold and rainy very soon.

I celebrated my first birthday in Ireland which was very nice. Sometimes I wonder if I am still recovering from that night 2 weeks ago…

The only frustrating thing I’ve had to deal with since arriving is the fact that I am not working yet and I fully expected to be by now. I cannot even apply for jobs until I register with immigration and the pre-process has proven to be a bit more time consuming than I expected. Considering that I have not worked since February (and spent all of my money on my round the world trip), I am desperate for work so I am hoping I will find a job very quickly after registering with immigration.

Side note: On this exact day 4 years ago (September 8th, 2010), I arrived in Ireland for the very first time. I am so happy with the decisions I’ve made in my life over the last four years and cannot even put into words how happy I am to be back in Dublin. I can officially call Ireland home again, and to me, those are the sweetest words in the world.
